Podiatric Residency (click here to Tallahassee Report)
Podiatric Medicine and Surgery - 24 (PM&S-24)

The Podiatric Medical and Surgical Residency Program at Westchester General Hospital places emphasis not only on the diagnosis and treatment of the foot pathology but also the general health and well-being of the patient. With additional training in family medicine, wound care, geriatrics, psychosocial skills and behavioral psychology, the podiatric resident reinforces the tenets of the care of the total patient. This program is designed to allow the resident to know his patients and their families not only medically but also from a psychosocial perspective.

By definition, foot health care means a full range of basic foot health care services necessary to preserve health, to prevent disease and provide care of the commonly occurring foot health problems of our patient population.

The Podiatric Residency training program also provides the opportunity to gather experience and exposure in general podiatric medical and surgical skills. The program provides the resident with the skills and knowledge in preparation to meet the requirements leading to board certification by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

The program provides intensive clinical experiences to prepare the resident to enter into practice as a specialist in podiatric medicine and surgery. Additionally, the program provides the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable the resident to conduct clinical research in a community environment.

The goal of this medical training is to produce highly competent, well-qualified "comprehensive podiatric medical and surgical foot care specialists," sensitive to the specific needs of the communities which they serve.
